One major thing I've been trying to do this time is to eat in a bit more to save money for travels to other cities (like Tokyo, Hakone, or Nikko). While looking around the grocery store, here are a couple of things I thought were interesting enough to talk about.
The first one is of plant-based meet. As you can see here, the one highlight is ~400円 while the one an aisle away is ~500円. I think the thing that surprised me was whether this was as affordable as some of the canned fish or meat products (i.e. spam). Though no documented here, I think the price range was somewhat comparable but I'm not sure if the weight per yen was comparable. If they were comparable in terms of value, then the thing worth mentioning here is if there are places where vegetarian alternatives to meat are competitive in terms of price (and maybe flavor) to their real counterparts, then I'm kinda excited for the future.
The next one is a bit minor but there were cans of amazake (甘酒) or a sweet low alcohol sake that is normally served at festivals for people of all ages (some times warm). To appeal to kids apparently, they paired the milk flavored amazake with Mr. Mickey Mouse himself and the soy flavored one with Minnie Mouse. Very cute, very sell-able.
The next one here was noticing the color of this peanut butter container here. The color is so light and a bit shocking. My assumption here is whether they whip a lot of air into this peanut butter for easier spreading but without buying it myself, I can't know for sure.
The last one here is from a vending machine near the lab. A very famous anime named "One Piece" is celebrated it's 25 year so seeing the One Piece themed coffee here is quite cool to see. I had this gold premium coffee with a character named Yamato (the one on the left) and was a bit displeased that it was sweet. Nevertheless, it was not bad and a really nice gimmick.
