Aside being a song in West Side Story, Maria is a nice little cake shop. After a rough remote shift, I thought I should treat myself with with something sweet. Having passed this patisserie a few times, I thought now was the opportunity to try it.
After ordering, I noticed there was a nice seating area outside so I got to enjoy my dessert for lunch in a nice shaded area with some fresh air! I think it would probably be great for a date (I did also see a couple share something as I was leaving so others seem to agree).
So I asked the the shop employee for a recommendation since this was the first time in the shop. The employee said that their carved melon or their melon tart would be the main recommendations. Thus, I got the honeydew melon tart with an iced tea.
There's a nice topping of cantaloupe melon and whipped cream on top of the juicy sweet decadent honey dew, on a bed of a cantaloupe cream and a tart crust. It was a bit sweet but I think the bitterness of the black tea helped counterbalance it quite a bit. I think the addition of a simple syrup on top was a bit excessive near the crust due to how sweet the fruits already were but it's still very enjoyable so c'est la vie.
After a stressful day, I would recommend stopping by the Patisserie Maria and getting something small. It's a bit expensive but I think it's still worth one's time. Next time, I'm going to get the carved half-melon (for myself....)
