Yuzu, the restaurant (not the fruit)

On this day, I went to the yoshoku restaurant called Yuzu. It's a nice quaint place. It plays nice covers of ghibli songs and the various decorations add some charm to the place (as depicted above). The outside of the restaurant is also very homey (well, it looks like someone could live in there). I came in the restaurant greeted by a single waitress and thankfully had the whole restaurant to myself.

One of the specials of the day was beef stew so I got it with rice a salad+soup combo. I think it was a tomato based beef stew with potatoes, broccoli, and topped with heavy cream and parsley. Fitting to the vibe of the place, it was a very homey dish. It was very easy to eat (with or without rice/bread) while the individual ingredients had their own distinct taste and texture. The potato was cooked through but still had a little bit of a bite. The broccoli wasn't mushy and the beef held it's own. The cream on top also provided additional richness from time to time, which was nice.

As an additional note, the salad was simple with a nice ponzu dressing and the soup was a bone broth based soup with a bit of black pepper. Nothing much to write home about.

I'm personally used to red wine based beef stews so the lightness of the beef stew was not quite what I wanted but still good. It is the type of beef stew that can (and maybe should) be eaten by itself, rather than a really rich and heavy boeuf bourguignon. Overall, I want to give it a rating of 6.5/10. It was good but not quite what I personally crave in beef stews.
