Sushi at Todai/IMPU?

When I visited the Kashiwa Campus of 東大 (U. of Tokyo) to visit a VT professor, he mentioned that they have an on campus sushi restaurant where, as is rumored, some of the fish is locally sourced while still being reasonably priced. So, since I haven't had sushi at a restaurant yet in Japan, now seemed like a perfect time as any.

I got the twelve nigiri set, which contained maguro (tuna), ika (squid), salmon, unagi, hikarimono (silver skin), ebi (shrimp), saba (makrel), negitoro ('minced' toro with green onions), etc. These were quite standard but still quite enjoyable (definitely loads more than what one gets in Blacksburg, VA so I'm not complaining).

The professor noticed they had a special five nigiri set with a few local varieties of snapper (たい) so we also shared a plate with some extra negitoro. My only regret is not getting my own plate so I could more carefully try to ascertain the difference between the varieties of snapper.

Considering the two plates above + a negitoro don costed ~2900円, I think that's pretty fairly priced for the quality so if it's the right season, I would definitely recommend a visit if possible. For the science and the fish.

Below, I took a few pictures of the Kavli Institute for Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (IMPU) with the amphitheater on top for things like outreach or music concerts! The building is apparently ~10 years old so there's quite a few neat architectural quirks but I'll let one explore it for themselves. :D
