During a trip to Tokyo, some of my Australian colleagues were feeling conveyor-belt sushi or the sushi train (開店寿司) and I had no reason to say no (I should save some money) so we went. I pointed out to one of the foodies in the group that this was owned by Genki Sushi which might've depressed them but.... Alas. Spoilers: it's still pretty good.
I was too excited to take pictures of everything I got but here's a subset. Going from upper left to bottom right, there is shark cartilage with plum sauce, salmon roe, tuna mayo hand roll, and monk liver. I also had marinated squid and uni as well! The upper two gunkans and the hand roll were quite nice. The shark cartilage gunkan (battleship sushi) was mainly ume sauce flavored with the crunch from the cartilage so nothing too complicated there. The salt marinated salmon roe was just collection little bursts of briny umami with tangy rice, as expected. The hand roll was fufilling and the monk fish liver (ankimo) was not fresh and not delicious....
For 6 pieces (noting some are 'luxary' items), spending 1000円 is not bad so I guess this is fine. I should find some real sushi though...
