The restaurant featured in this blog is Bistro Hachi (大衆ビストロ ハチ). It's a small Italian bistro right by Abutora and Niku no Bannin. When both locations happen to be closed, I thought it's time to cross of another Italian restaurant off the list and collapse the wave function. A free appetizer came out in the form of this fried onion, carrot salad. It's been a few days since I've had this dish so I can't quite remember what the dressing was (might've been ranch) but you can't go wrong with friend onions and decent vegetables.
The first dish I ordered was this Italian basil pizza. There was this chimmicuri-like basil sauce with great cherry tomatoes and bacon. It's a very simple four/five ingredient pizza and was acceptable. The season was alright and the dough had a good taste. It was a bit difficult to keep the fold on the pizza so that was a bit of a disappointment but the intense cherry tomatoes with the bacon and basil providing good support covers up some of the concerns I had with the dough.
I did want a bit more so I ended up getting a katsuo (skipjack tuna) carpaccio plate. The fresh briny fish with some slight umami towards the back of one's palette. By itself, it would be a bit underwhelming but the addition of olive oil, lemon, and green onions helped fill the space inbetween. The bright acidic notes of the lemon paired with the savory aromatic olive oil and the pungent onions played well with the katsuo so I enjoyed the carpaccio.
It's a nice modest restaurant with the chef and a part-time water taking care of dinner and is a place one should consider if a nice intimate bistro is the desired aesthetic. They also have a relatively large wine menu so that might be a good plus for some. I think 7/10 is fair for a nice quaint location like Bistro Hachi.
