First taste of Korea in Japan

I had a day where a former VT colleague visited me in Tsukuba and we went to this Korean restaurant to catch up. From the google reviews, it seemed decent enough and I haven't had Korean food yet so, why not? I got this spicy chicken dish with level 5 spice. Since Japan is not known for dealing with intense heat, I thought I should try the hottest and maybe I'll feel something.

I was wrong. It was a real Korean spice and I needed quite a bit of rice and kewpie mayo to account for that. Wow. My colleague beside me had level 3 and even he was shocked and slightly concerned that I had gotten level 5. I will say that the heat, probably partially coming from gochugaru (a Korean red chili) and some additional peppers (maybe thai red chili?). Pairing the sauce on the chicken with the cabbage was actually quite nice since there was a lot of savory but nice chili flavor that had enough room to breath with the watery sliced cabbage. The soup was a bit lack luster but provided some nice reprieve. Asking for some additional rice refills definitely helped too.

If I was at KEK and missed Korean flavors, I might consider stopping by again. 6.5/10.
